thai massage

Thai Massage :

In Thai massages the therapists use their legs, knees, feet , and hands to maneuver the body into various yoga-like positions and stretches. It is often known as the Lazy Mans Yoga or Yoga for Two. It helps align the bodies energy, focus the mind, and increase flexibility. It can be best described as being a mixture of yoga, acupressure and reflexology.

There aren’t an oils used so you are fully dressed. It’s advisable to wear loose, comfortable clothing. Usually it’s performed on a floor mat. If you’re hoping to have a massage where you are just lying down on massage table the whole time then this definitely isn’t the massage to go for.

swedish massage

Swedish Massage :

This is the most well known and common type of massage. If it’s your first time trying out a massage then this is the best one to go for. It involves using oils so you are nude underneath a towel , however only parts that are being worked on are uncovered so modesty is respected. This can also become an aromatherapy massage depending on the oils that are used.

Firm but gentle pressure is used on various parts. Finger tips and palms of the hands are used in slow and measured way. This type of massage is good for relieving pain, muscle tension and increasing the flow of oxygen in the blood. It can also help with the removal of lactic acid and other waste from the body.

Shiatsu Massage

Shiatsu Massage :

This massage uses finger pressure on specific areas of the body. Shiatsu is a Japanese word which translates as finger pressure. This is because the massage involves use mainly of thumbs, fingers, palms, and sometimes elbows to apply pressure. Pressure is applied to points that are related to the central and autonomic nervous systems. It uses similar pressure points to acupuncture making it a good alternative to anyone who might be scared of needles.

Shiatsu promotes muscle relaxation, improved circulation, and flexibility. It can reduce stress and blood pressure. It has also proven to be great for things like headaches.

Like Thai massage the best type of clothing to wear is loose and comfortable.

Deep Tissue

Deep Tissue :

A Deep Tissue Massage is a more focused massage working on areas of pain and tension and also helps to break up scar tissue. It is recommended for extremely tense areas like sore shoulders, or a stiff neck. Also most commonly use by those that are recovery from injuries such as sports related, falls, whiplash or have chronic pains.

It involves the therapists using fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows, and forearms . It can be painful at times and you may feel a bit sore afterwards but no more than a workout.

Drink plenty of water as you can after the massage flush out toxins in the muscle.

hot stone

Hot Stone Massage :

This uses techniques of a Swedish massage but with the hot stones added. Stones are usually made of basalt, a type of rock that is rich in iron, so they retain heat. They are placed on various points of the body such as, the back, in the palms of the hands or between toes.

You won’t be able to wear much for this treatment, but you will have strategically-placed towels to cover you up. This style of massage helps to soothe and relax tight muscles. Heat from the stones improves circulation, calms the nervous system, and releases toxins.
