When hair gets crunchy – To test this, take a strand of hair between your palms, rub it between your fingers and listen: if you hear or feel it crunching, you may want to consider adding some extra nourishment to your hair.

When it stretches like chewing gum — No matter how healthy your hair is, when it’s wet, even the strongest of hair tends to stretch. But if your hair feels super gummy, it is one of the sure signs of hair damage of the worst kind. It is advisable to discontinue whatever shampoo or product you are applying to your hair immediately.

When it tangles constantly — Wavy hair tends to tangle more at the ends. This means that you should lay off heat and styling products and pay more attention to your daily hair care routine.

When it’s too porous — When hair gets damaged, its porosity increases. Increased porosity also leads to your hair absorbing more dye/colour than it should (which might give you a shade darker than usual). Also, after it is dyed, your hair will lose colour faster than it should.

When it breaks easily — This one’s a no-brainer. If you wake up every morning and see your pillow covered with broken hair, it means your hair is too brittle and has to be rescued; else you won’t be able to grow them too long.
