There are a variety of skirts you can choose from, keeping in mind your body type, shape and bone structure.
Pencil skirt :
This skirt has a body-hugging silhouette and usually ends at the knees. It accentuates most body types, but looks best on women with petite hourglass bodies. It works well as both formal and casual wear. Avoid wearing one if you have flab around the belly area, since it could look unsightly.
High-low skirt :
The most fashion-forward skirt this season is the high-low skirt. Its defining feature is an uneven hemline — short in front and long at the back. It works on pear-shaped women too since the flowy silhouette camouflages the hips. Pick a longer one if you have thunder thighs.
Maxi skirt :
Typically long, ending all the way down to the ankle, the maxi skirt might not show much skin, but it’s a stylish and comfortable choice for summer. Maxi skirts suit tall women the most. If you don’t have the height, pick a high-waisted maxi skirt to give the illusion of longer legs.
Sheer skirt :
See-through, flowy and feminine, sheer skirts are quite the rage right now. Women with a broad torso benefit from sheer skirts if they are worn higher and have a loose silhouette. Make sure your innerwear is in the same colour as the skirt.
Boho skirt :
An offshoot of the hippie era, the boho skirt has a gypsy feel, wildly colourful prints, is usually long and comes in flowy fabrics. Although it can suit just about any body type, tall women with a tiny waist can carry it off best.
The A-line skirt sits tight at the waist, slightly touches the hips and gradually widens towards the bottom. If you have narrow hips, it gives you shapely contours. Pear-shaped women look slimmer while skinny women can look curvaceous in it.
Pleated skirt :
Skirts with multiple folds or pleats are available in short and long styles for work and effortless evening wear. They lend the illusion of curves to a boxy or androgynous figure and balance out a curvy frame.
Mini skirt :
This daringly short style ends four or more inches above the knees. It best suits slender women who have the legs and the sass to carry it off. Pick one in denim or lace this season. Unless you want to look tacky, avoid mini skirts if you have cellulite on your thighs or flabby hips.
Bubble skirt :
A bubble skirt is usually scrunched or folded up at the hem. This baggy-style skirt has a playful feel and looks best on young girls with an apple-shaped figure. Don’t wear one if you have wide hips since it will make you look broader.
